Reno Resilience is the City of Reno’s sustainability and climate program. It embodies our city leaders commitment to create a more sustainable and resilient community. The City of Reno’s 2019-2025 Sustainability and Climate Action Plan provides a clear roadmap for the actions we will take to make real progress.
The plan builds on the City of Reno’s Certified 3-STAR Community rating and 2017 Sustainability Report. The actions outlined in the plan also support the goals and policies of the City of Reno Master PlanTrao đổi tuyệt đối adopted in 2017. The Master Plan guides development as the city continues to grow and evolve over the next 20 years and reflects the ideas, values and hopes of our community.
The goal of the Sustainability Program is to establish well-focused initiatives that promise to strengthen Reno’s reputation as one of the world’s leading cities while also improving the day-to-day quality of life for all of the City’s residents. In a community and a world that face grave threats from climate change, sustainability initiatives are of the utmost importance. From simple changes in day-to-day operation of the city government to innovative growth strategies, we are committed to the creation of a community all of us are proud to call home.
Sustainability and Climate Action Plan
The 2019-2025 Sustainability and Climate Action Plan is the result of our commitment to develop, adopt and implement ambitious and measurable actions to reduce climate pollution. Well-focused initiatives on sustainability promise to strengthen Reno’s reputation as one of the nation’s leading cities.
Trao đổi tuyệt đốiThe actions outlined in this plan will protect cornerstones of the Reno-area economy and provide for new economic opportunities and the creation of new jobs. Actions will also enhance the lives of residents every day — from more shade trees along city streets to walkable neighborhoods that create safety and a sense of community.
Through the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan we have set an ambitious goal: By the year 2025, only five years from now, we want to reduce greenhouse gas emission in Reno by 28 percent from 2008 levels, a goal that we are on track to meet. A community-wide greenhouse gas inventory showed that emissions decreased by 13.6 percent from 2008 to 2014. By 2030, we have targeted a 40 percent reduction. We will achieve this through the plans nine priorities that include:
- Lead by Example—Sustainable City Operations
- Transition to Clean, Renewable Energy
- Green Building as Standard Practice
- Create Lively, Low-Carbon Neighborhoods
- Toward Zero Waste
- Healthy, Equitable Urban Forest
- Access to Fresh, Local Foods
- Safeguard Water Resources
- Strengthen Climate Resilience
