Apply for a Building Permit

Building Codes and Amendments

The building codes and standards listed below are currently in effect for the City of Reno. Mandatory compliance with the codes went into effect on July 1, 2019.

Projects Exempt from Building Permits

Trao đổi tuyệt đốiMost construction and building projects require a building permit. Please see in the International Building Code for a list of items that would not require a permit.

Request a Building Inspection

Download the Reno Building Inspections app to your smartphone to schedule a building inspection
Schedule online via the ONE Regional Licensing and Permitting portal by creating and logging into your account

On the day of the scheduled inspection, the inspector should send a text message to the cell number provided when the inspection was scheduled. The text message should provide an approximate time when the inspector will be on site. If a text message is not received, please contact the Building and Safety Division.

Request your Certificate of Occupancy

Permits must be complete to request a certificate of occupancy (CofO).

Follow these instructions to request a CofO:

Gather required documents. Documents must be signed and dated by inspector. Required documents include:
- Residential CofOs
  - Back of the permit showing all inspections signed off
  - Final grading and/or drainage letter
  - IECC insulation and energy certifications
  - Special Inspections final letter
  - If applicable to permit, Washoe County proof of sewer payment.
- Commercial CofOs
  - Back of the permit showing all inspections signed off
  - Final grading and/or drainage letter
  - Special Inspections final letter
  - Landscape letter from landscape architect
  - If applicable to permit, Washoe County proof of sewer payment.
Verify that permit number/addresses match for all documents being sent.
Scan all required documents as one (1) attachment and send in one (1) email to CofO@Reno.Gov.

Get Details on Electrician and Plumber Journeyman Requirement

Each individual working in electrical or plumbing trades within the City of Reno will be required to possess the appropriate pre-apprentice, apprentice, or journeyman certificates. Get more information.
